EIGHT Photo Session Essentials That Most People Forget About |Seattle Photographer

Hello Sweethearts (See what I did there)! Above is a little visual check list (feel free to pin, print or download!) of the items you should be bringing to your photo session, but are likely not considering to. Let me break them down!

  1. Lip Gloss! No one likes flaky lips. No one likes dry, white lips. Make sure your lip gloss is poppin’. For the guys, a simple tube of carmex or chapstick will do.
  2. A Hairbrush! While you’re whipping your hair back & forth on the beautiful, sun drenched, country side for one shot & resting on a vintage quilt for the next, you will be SO thankful you thought to bring a brush to smooth out the stringy strands between poses.
  3. Some pressed powder. It might get hot, you might get sweaty, but you don’t want to look shiny! Pressed powder is better than loose, of course, because you don’t want powder sprinkled on that adorable photo-worthy outfit you’re wearing.
  4. Shorts! Put them on under your dress, for god sakes! I’m not THAT kind of a photographer! Seriously, though. You will be way more comfortable doing most poses if you’re not freaking out about covering your bits the whole time. You want to be able to relax & focus on the moment, not stress &  fixate on avoiding possible wardrobe malfunctions.
  5. Water! What if you get really thirsty? I want you relaxed & comfortable. Are comfortable when you are dying for a drink of h2o? Probably not so much.
  6. A Snack. I think a granola bar is a good choice. An apple would also work here. Or a piece of toast. Light & mess free. I get grumpy when I’m hungry. I think most people do. Grumpy does not equal pretty.
  7. Flip Flops! I know you want to wear your cutest most uncomfortable showes you own for your session & I am so glad because I love shoes! All of them! No matter how much they sometimes might pinch! I know it is worth it girls! But let’s be real. It’s actually only worth it for like ten minutes. Especially if we’re doing some walking between photo ops. Bring some flippy floppies for when your dogs start to bark!
  8. A visually interesting accessory! Could be a hat. Could be a scarf. Could be a bright red pair of shoes. This will bring interest & personality to your session, so don’t be shy! Have fun with it & bring a few options for us to play with!

Hopefully that helped ya! I know it’s a lot to remember, so when you are setting out your outfit options for your sesh, run around your house and bag up your essentials, along with anything else you think you’ll need. Hang the bag on the same hanger as your photo session outfit and it will be impossible to leave behind! And if you accidentally do, your friendly photographer just might always have most of the above items in her car! 😀
